When you're lucky enough to be perched on the hills that surround Montego Bay and give way to the Caribbean Sea, the view is out of this world. At twilight hour when the fading sun pierces through clouds before plunging into the sea, the experience becomes almost mystical.
Overview
Approaching Jamaica by air, the northeastern coast unfolds beneath your eyes. Sections of rock separate the many beaches with white sand and turquoise water. You can make out the thin ribbon of road that runs along the sea. As the plane veers beyond this road, the undulating hills of the backcountry extend as far as the eye can see. A few roads snake their way through the intense green of these hills. Here and there, small houses cluster together like bunches of grapes on a vine.
The leading tourist destination in Jamaica, people come to the region mainly to stretch out on its many idyllic beaches, especially to the east of Montego Bay.
Besides the beaches and old plantation houses, the region offers possibilities for birdwatching and river rafting on bamboo rafts.
Where on earth
Montego Bay is located on the northeastern coast of Jamaica, in the Caribbean Sea. The shores of Cuba are 145 km (90 mi) to the north of the island, while those of Haiti are 160 km (99 mi) away.
Excursions
BLACK RIVER NATURE AND SAFARI
Your bus takes you along the beautiful and largely undeveloped South Coast, past quaint fishing villages. On arrival at Black River, board your boat for an exciting nature expedition along Jamaicas longest river. See crocodiles, an abundance of Jamaican birds and native fishermen in their dugout canoes fishing for river shrimp. Then its on to YS Falls.
NEGRIL SUNSET
Negril, that seductive corner of Jamaica where time stands still... Savour the sun and explore 7 miles of uninterrupted white sand beach. Then on to Ricks Café to watch the beautiful sunset.
GLISTENING WATERS LUMINOUS LAGOON
This incredible natural wonder is a phosphorescent lagoon located in Falmouth, where the guests are taken on a mystical night cruise. At Glistening Waters, we take you on a guided boat tour of the lagoon and when we dock you can take advantage of the finest seafood restaurants in Jamaica.
SPIRIT OF REGGAE
The legend of Bob Marley comes alive as you walk through the village of Nine Miles, his birth and final resting place. Learn about his culture, his passion, and Rastafarianism, the religion that helped shape his life.
KINGSTON TOUR
Enjoy a scenic ride from Ocho Rios to the capital, Kingston, along winding roads to Mount Diablo and enjoy a panoramic view of the islands mountainous interior. Then journey down to Kingston and visit the Bob Marley Museum and other local attractions.
DUNNS RIVER FALLS
Spend the morning in Ocho Rios rummaging through the towns many shopping arcades and craft markets. Then its off to the legendary Dunns River Falls, where a local guide will accompany you on the climb to the top.
RAFTING ON THE MARTHA BRAE
Glide down the Martha Brae River on a 30-foot two-passenger bamboo raft and admire some of the most beautiful local sights. Legend has it, the river was named after a local Arawak girl killed by Spanish soldiers in search of a goldmine.
