The beaches of Varadero need no introduction?
As sure as the ebb and flow of the tide that caresses the long stretches of white sand of Varadero's beaches, loyal vacationers come year after year to enjoy the region's main attraction.
Overview
The superb white sandy beaches of Varadero span a total length of over 18 km (11 mi), and Cubans rightly claim that they are the loveliest in the country. The calm, clear waters range in colour from turquoise to deep blue, with a million and one shades in between. The average temperature in Varadero is 25°C (77°F), and the ocean, warm year-round, is perfect for swimming and water sports.
If the beaches need no introduction, the same can't be said of the Parque Natural de Varadero, a little-known park also found on the Hicacos peninsula. This uncrowded, unspoiled natural setting is also one of the few places in Varadero where you don't have to pay to get in. Fourteen archaelogical sites lie hidden within its boundaries.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990, the development of the local tourist industry has transformed Varadero's urban landscape, though a few old wooden houses and streets have survived. Now Varadero's main tourist attraction, the Mansión Xanadu (or Casa DuPont), a majestic Spanish colonial-style mansion, with carved wooden balconies and windows, is reminiscent of an Andalusian palace. Today the mansion comprises the Las Américas restaurant.
As far as nightclubs are concerned, Varadero is definitely one of the best cities in Cuba. All catering to tourists, these establishments offer a wide variety of music and atmospheres.
Where on earth
Located on the Hicacos peninsula, in the Cuban province of Matanzas, Varadero is a long, thin strip of land that juts into the sea.
Excursions
SNORKELLING ADVENTURE
Head to Coral Beach and admire the underwater world of corals, located 15 metres off shore (with equipment included). Then carry on to Saturno Cave to swim in a fresh water lagoon.
GUAMA, STEAM & SUGAR
Enjoy a ride in a steam engine train from last century! Visit an old sugar refinery, navigate Treasure Lagoon toward Guama Island, tour a replica of an Indian village and visit a crocodile farm.
VISIT OF HAVANA
Havana Historia / Havana Plus Cigar Factory / Havana Especial. There is much to see and do on this cultural tour of Havana. All three options offer day tours, but Havana Plus Cigar Factory incorporates a trip to a cigar factory and Havana Especial includes admission to the world-famous Tropicana Show in the evening.
MATANZAS SPLASH
Cruise the Canimar River and enjoy a welcome cocktail, music, outdoor activities and lunch. Visit the citys historical centre and local market, followed by snorkelling in a fresh-water lake that will take you into a cave to see the amazing underwater cave formations.
RAMBO TOUR
Ride in a 6-wheel truck to Guanayara Farm Natural Park, hike through the mountains to El Rocio Waterfall and enjoy time for swimming. Spend one night in a hotel on the mountain and visit the colonial city of Trinidad the following day. Drive through Cienfuegos and Santa Clara to see the Che monument.
TRINIDAD CIENFUEGOS
Tour Cienfuegos and discover Trinidad, a city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Visit its pottery factory.
BOAT ADVENTURE
A two-hour adventure on a jetski or speedboat along the sea, and through the mangroves! Enjoy a visit to a small zoo on a little island and take a picture with a caiman.

SEAFARI CAYO BLANCO
An unforgettable day onboard a catamaran! Stop for some snorkelling at a coral reef on the way to Cayo Blanco, where you will have time to enjoy a beautiful white sand beach. Enjoy a typical seafood and chicken meal, an open bar and a great dolphin show upon your return.
CUBAN SAFARI
Take a ride in a 4-wheel drive Jeep through sugar cane fields and villages, followed by a boat ride on the magnificent Canimar River and typical Cuban meal at a ranch, where you can also enjoy recreational activities and horseback riding. Drive through the colonial city of Matanzas and swim in the crystalline waters of Coral Beach.
